This is a wonderful opportunity to help beautify our community ahead of Mayfest (May 17\, 2025) and other spring and summer events. Your commitment to keeping Lovettsville beautiful and sustainable is truly inspiring! \n\n\n\nTo ensure that everyone has a positive and safe experience\, we would like to review a few important procedures and guidelines. \n\n\n\nPlease note: We will have maps of public areas available at check-in. Some areas will be designated “kid-friendly\,” while others\, due to higher traffic\, will be assigned to adults only. \n\n\n\nSafety Guidelines:• Please wear comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy\, closed-toe shoes. We recommend pants and long sleeves to protect against scratches or irritants.• All participants must wear safety vests at all times while in roadway areas.• Bring and wear protective gloves (gardening gloves are preferred for better protection against sharp objects).• Stay hydrated throughout the event.• Apply sunscreen and consider wearing a hat for sun protection.• Stay with your assigned group for safety and efficiency.• Avoid standing on the roadway\, especially along Berlin Turnpike.• Place collected litter bags 5–10 feet off the edge of the pavement — where they are visible but do not pose a hazard to traffic.• If you encounter any item that looks dangerous or poses a health or safety concern\, do not handle it. Please contact Sarah Moseley at 571-509-9694 so arrangements can be made for safe removal.• If you find a tire\, please leave it in place and notify Sarah Moseley for collection.• When finished with your area (or no later than 4:00 p.m.)\, please return your safety vests\, trash grabbers\, and any unused trash bags to the Town table at Walker Pavilion on the Town Green. \n\n\n\nReporting:At the end of your clean-up\, please be prepared to provide Town Staff with a brief summary of your efforts — including the number of bags collected. This information will assist Keep Loudoun Beautiful with tracking community impact. \n\n\n\nVolunteer Hours and Scout Patches:If you need verification of your volunteer hours or would like to request a Keep Loudoun Beautiful Scout Patch\, please see Sarah Moseley at the Town Green after the event. \n\n\n\nYour safety and well-being are our top priorities. SUMMARY:Annual Canoe Cleanup of the Potomac
DESCRIPTION:Keep Loudoun Beautiful is gearing up for our annual canoe cleanup event.  Join us as we paddle down the Potomac River collecting tires and trash found along and in the water. \n\n\n\nThis year’s cleanup event is set for Sunday\, August 3rd\, rain or shine.  (There will be NO RAIN DATE). \n\n\n\nWe will meet at 8:45 am at the McKimmey Boat Ramp\, just off Rte 15 before you get to the Point of Rocks bridge. We will put in and paddle down the Potomac River picking up trash and tires.  The trip will end at Riverside on the Potomac\, in Lucketts\, VA\, around 1 pm where we will haul the trash and tires from the canoes into dumpsters.  The day ends at 2 pm with a pizza lunch. \n\n\n\nDrivers will drop off their passengers at the McKimmey Boat Ramp and drive to the take out location at Riverside on the Potomac to park their vehicles.   A driver shuttle van will be waiting at Riverside on the Potomac to take drivers back to the McKinney Boat Ramp. \n\n\n\nThe event fee is $30 per person.  There will be 2 persons per canoe.  The event fee includes the canoe\, paddle\, safety vest\, river guide\, cleanup supplies\, and a pizza lunch.  The event fee helps to defray the cost of putting together the event and to avoid “no-shows”. \n\n\n\nVolunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate. \n\n\n\nPlease wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet.  Bring a reusable water bottle\, sunscreen\, a towel\, a hat\, and a change of clothes.  **This will be a plastic water bottle-free event.**  \n\n\n\nThere is a limit of 18 canoes for this cleanup event\, so sign up to reserve your canoe/spot before they’re all filled up!
